In this course, we will explore and gain a better understanding of our interactions with and interdependence upon the Earth, its processes, and the changes in these processes over time. There are four main interconnected fields in this discipline: Geology, Oceanography, Meteorology and Astronomy. The interrelated nature of these fields demonstrates how changes in one part of the Earth’s system can affect the overall system. This continuous change, in this system, continues throughout time. We can observe and measure these natural events. Understanding past events and relating them to present conditions will enable us to predict future changes of the Earth system. This is important because all of the Earth’s processes have a significant impact on each of our everyday lives, all living things and society.
